For many of you, I know you will find this home way over the top for your taste, it is even for myself. But that is what Kelly Wearstler, the designer of Cameron’s apartment, is really all about. She is about pushing the boundaries, putting things together that normally YOU would never think could work, and yet somehow they just always do. I respect her work so much. She is clearly at a playing level far above most designers, simply because she is willing to take risks. This is a lesson we can all take away, think outside the box, and take a step out of your comfort zone.
While her decor choices are heavily rooted in the past, they always feel so modern and fresh in our time, not to mention she finds the COOLEST pieces. Guess it pays to live in L.A.
Have a look,
First off, can we talk about the counter tops and back splash? They are unlacquered brass!!!!! To most this would be a cleaning NIGHTMARE, to Cameron it is simply patina. Good on her. I would die.
Gold is a recurring theme throughout, and one that not only warms the space but injects a level of glamour into it as well.
It’s interesting how the furniture on either side of the fireplace are completely different heights. My instinct would be to have at least placed a painting above the dresser so that it appeared to be similar in height and stature, but the imbalance appears to not be an issue. Hmmmm not sure how I feel about that? Guess even I need to think outside the box.
One more thing that I would like to point out about Kelly’s work, every surface in her designs are touched. Do you notice that as well? The room as a whole is completely considered and that includes the ceiling. It is no wonder she chooses to work with people who respect her taste, and like herself are willing to take chances.
Read the story in its entirety here.
Could you ever see yourself living in a place like this? I think it would be so great to have a client that was just willing to think this outside the box.
Have a great weekend everyone.
